The new design will draw upon old and new to create a garden which provides space to reflect and socialise. The tombs and monuments provide the focus which the wild flower meadow will frame and enclose, while the raised walkway will provide direct access across the site and the improved brick pathways will be a circuit that allows access to the tombs.

Master Plan

Cast iron inlays which tell the history of the 300 year old burial grounds are set into the terrace leading you to the raised walkway connecting the whole site.

The walkway will be framed by cast iron fins, each bearing the name of someone buried within one of the two original burial grounds on the site. The walkway will give you an opportunity to tread carefully among the tombs and invite you to reflect on the rich history of the site. At night the walkway will be subtly lit, illuminating the names.

The terrace at the Handel Street entrance and the raised walkway will be built in Portland Stone to compliment the monuments and tombs within the garden. Seating on the terrace and around the garden will provide an opportunity to enjoy the view across the meadow. The large lawn will be a space to play and relax and somewhere to hold annual community events and parties.
