Imagine...
Children damming a tumbling river with sticks and stones.
Paddling barefoot in the cool water.
Collecting materials from the forest floor to create boats to race on the stream.
Exciting adventures, imaginary games, and amazing discoveries. Exploring the power of water through play.
The natural world is a place for investigation, learning about risk, building confidence and escaping into the imagination. This garden provides an interactive natural playground in which adults and children can appreciate and enjoy wild places together and, above all, have fun.
Dam Good Fun! invites visitors to momentarily become the master of water and gives them the opportunity to learn about the power of this incredible element in a playful way. They are able to experience building a dam, observe how the water builds up and the power of the water when the dam is removed. They can divert the flow with water switches and create channels with building blocks.
Adults will remember damming streams as a child and show their younger companions how it is done. The activity will evoke excitement for children and nostalgia for grown-ups, creating an experience which they can take into their future adventures in the natural world.
